Family: -Father: Cathán Aberdeen -Mother: Dáirine Aberdeen -Sibling(s): Cathaír Aberdeen (Brother, 44)
Appearance: Standing at 6 feet tall with an elegant, curvaceous, and somewhat muscular figure, Gayle isn't exactly the most inconspicuous-looking person in the castle. Her fiery red hair has been (rather roughly) cropped short and is streaked with gray. She sports various scars from her previous career, including one on her face and a few on her hands. Though she almost always keeps it covered, she has a tattoo of a vine winding around her upper left arm, near the shoulder. Her movements are graceful, though an injury sustained to her right leg has caused her to walk rather unevenly – despite this, however, she doesn't limp and instead chooses to walk with a sort of graceful swagger.
Personality: Quiet and reserved on the outside, Gayle keeps her emotions to herself, even when around the closest family members. She was never Little Miss Popular in the clique-ish sense, and has only become more and more introspective over the years. That isn't to say, of course, that she doesn't socialize at all – she does go out on occasion with friends, family, or colleagues, though when off the job, large crowds simply don't suit her, and she often will find a comfortable vantage point from which to watch the festivities. When speaking one on one to students she is known to address them as “Child”, which – unless said student finds him or herself the object of her extreme annoyance – is meant in an endearing way. Despite this serious temperament, she has a temper as fiery as the color of her hair, which has been known to both serve her ends extremely well and also get her in trouble on occasions. In her free time she is an avid fencer, enjoys reading, and keeping current with the happenings among the students. Even though she may not seem like it at first, she cares deeply about her students and will go out of her way to help them if they should ever need her. Likes: Excitement, teaching, herbal tea Dislikes: Prejudice, the Dark Arts, disrespect
History: Born to an upper middle-class family in rural Ireland, Gayle enjoyed all the wonders of the Wizarding world there are for a child to see. Her father was a successful Auror in Ireland, and her mother – though a muggle – taught Gayle what she could about the world of magic from the time she could speak. It became quite evident early on that Gayle was a hopeless tomboy; she would escape the confines of feminine dresses at a moment's notice, don her breeches, and go out to climb trees with the boys. In an attempt to “refine” her wild attitude, her muggle cousins taught her how to fence, but this was – no pun intended – a double-edged sword. Her wild behavior calmed, yes, but part of her tomboyish attitudes only grew as she became more and more skilled in the art.
When she was eleven years old she was accepted into a few different Magic schools, but in the end her parents chose to send her to Hogwarts, even though it was out of the country. She flourished there, excelling in the arts of Potions, Defense Against the Dark Arts – that was her favorite – and Herbology. Her least favorite courses were Arithmancy and Divination, which she escaped as soon as possible. She even played Quidditch for her House, Gryffindor, and proved to be a skilled flier as well as a top-notch beater. She loved helping her team practice in other ways, as well, including playing the role of an opposing team member. Her Head of House, however, tried to put a stop to that when a rogue bludger to the head kept her in the Hospital Wing for almost a week. She could not, however, be kept from Quidditch entirely, and resumed playing as soon as possible.
After graduation she enrolled immediately in Auror Training, and from the first day on she knew that was her true calling. For several years she served as one of Ireland's top Aurors, and even after an injury forced her into an early and unfortunate retirement, she stayed on to train the new recruits. There was only one job that could take her away from Aurors – a teaching job.
As an Auror, Gayle has seen everything. She has worked in various teams at times, but was also known for doing solo missions. Because of her excellent night vision, her comrades dubbed her “Cat's-Eye” and the name stuck. Soon there were all kinds of rumors flying around that she was an unregistered Animagus, had a cat for an ancestor, or even was a cat transfigured into a human (the last two started by curious children of Ministry employees) – all false, of course. Her records both as an Auror and Instructor are top-notch, and she was rarely known to fail a mission. Despite her love for her job, when she was at last convinced to take up the position of Headmistress at Haunting Academy (a feat which took the Haunting Family no small amount of time and effort), she set off for her new life in America.
