Out-of-Character Information Name: Kiri Reason for Applying: I love playing professors, and I think Helios is perfect for the DADA position Resumé: http://villageofkonoha.proboards29.com/index.cgi (username Kirigakure) http://icefireacad.proboards105.com/index.cgi (characters Fyodor Michaelov and Rune McKennitt) Enchanted Castle (no longer functional) http://victorialennore.proboards84.com/index.cgi (characters Professor Helios Lamport and Tytus Oliver Nell)
Character Information Name: Helios Dalton Lamport Age: 44 Birthday: Nov 3 Gender: Male Blood Status: Pure School Attended & House (if applicable): Hogwarts, Ravenclaw Position: Defense of the Dark Arts Professor, Viridis HoH Wand: Phoenix feather, oak, 9 3/4 inches Other Info of Note: Helios has a pet Eurasian Eagle Owl named Aristotle
Family: -Father: Alphonse Lamport -Mother: Sophie Lamport -Siblings: none
Appearance: Helios is an imposing figure, to be sure. Around 6'2", he usually dwarfs those around him; and if he does not do so through height, the lofty manner with which he carries himself finishes the job. His hair is a snowy white color, which it turned prematurely when he was only nineteen years old. He has aged gracefully otherwise, sporting a fair-skinned face lacking in wrinkles. This odd combination almost gives him an appearance of wholly existing outside of the stream of time. His eyes are amber, usually swirling with a myriad of thoughts. As an academic, his build his hardly impressive, however he gained some muscle through the demands of being an Auror.
Personality: Primarily due to the treatment he suffered as a child, Helios has great difficulty expressing (or indeed, sometimes even feeling) emotions properly. This has caused him to come across as cold, sometimes even cruel to those who do not know him. He has few friends, as he still greatly fears getting close to anyone. He can be impatient with those slow to grasp concepts, and foolish people are completely intolerable. He often prefers to simply retire into his quarters to read and keep company with his owl, Aristotle.
There is, however, a duality to his personality. It greatly frustrates him, but as much as he despises the company of others, he is also almost unbearably lonely. He longs to be close to someone, to find a companion, perhaps love, but he also fears it. Love is not something he feels he can trust nor believe in, and so he has always shied away from it. So, he continues to live his life playing the cold, angry man, always pushing others away.
Even if he may seem frigid and mean to his students, it will be readily obvious that he is also quite fair and unbiased. He will not tolerate rudeness, name-calling, nor will he allow prejudicial talk to take place in his presence. Should he so much as suspect to have heard the word "mudblood," a punishment most severe will be in order. Likes: Tea, solitude, reading, taking walks, chess Dislikes: Chaos, stupidity, prejudice
History: Born to a well-to-do pureblood family of wizards, Helios was at odds with his parents early on. His father, a proud Slytherin, and his mother, once a member of the house of Gryffndor, were both rumored to have been practitioners of dark magic. Even as a child, he found their elitist and prejudicial viewpoints distasteful; a point which his parents often mocked him for. In his house he was often teased with derision as being a "lover of mudbloods," and as he grew older discussions grew heated enough that the words "blood traitor" were occasionally thrown at the boy.
He was granted his one opportunity for solace when he recieved his invitation to Hogwarts at age eleven. It was at Hogwarts that, for the first time in his life, he was able to make friends; it was his first opportunity to truly enjoy the simple pleasures of childhood. Sorted into Ravenclaw, he always showed a severe dedication with grades to match it. He was a quick learner by nature, however, should he be slow to grasp any concept, he was certain to apply himself to vigorous study until his abilities were perfected.
Although he excelled in most of his courses, his favorite was Defense of the Dark Arts. He gave little thought to teaching early on in his life, however, instead working as an Auror. Helios was a valiant warrior against any dark wizards who appeared during his career, unfortunately, he was not able to do so without suffering grief or loss. The rumor of his parents' habits (he had not spoken to them for many years) were proven true when the three of them met face-to-face. Alphonse and Sophie were caught being involved in an anti-muggle organization that had been known for attacking muggles by way of dark magic. A battle ensued, and the young auror was forced to kill his own father to survive. His mother fled and was never heard of again (she is presumed dead).
By the time he turned 41, Helios had decided he'd had quite enough of the being an auror. Hearing of a job opening at a school in America (a wizarding town called Hauntington, to be precise), Helios decided to apply. After all, it was of the utmost importance to him to see to it that young wizards were educated and properly prepared to join the ranks of the adult wizarding world.
