Family: -Father: Christopher Gannon -Mother: Rosalind Gannon -Siblings: none -Other: Melva's grandfather, Michael Nicela, lives with her mother.
Appearance: Melva is a very tall, muscular woman. Her hair is long, just slightly wavy, and a light-to-medium brown, and her eyes are also brown. One thing you will notice about Melva is her bright, wide smile. It seems to be her constant companion in everything she does. Another notable physical trait of Melva’s is her long legs. As far as her clothes are concerned, Melva does not really enjoy frilly clothes. She would rather dress comfortably in informal settings and sleekly in a formal setting. Neutral colors are not normally her thing, rather she enjoys vibrant colors.
Personality: Most important for you to know about Melva is that she is a courageous person. It is actually very amazing that Melva has grown up so brave and confident, what with being ridiculed by everyone for most of her life, but if you had known her mother you would understand. Aside from her courage, Melva carries a lot of confidence. If you don’t know her well this could come off as arrogance, but the dark-haired witch does not feel that she is better than anyone else. It is a constant struggle for her to make people see that, but she is always willing to try.
And that is another thing to know about Melva. She always tries her best, no matter what. Even if the result is not as perfect as she’d like, Melva will still feel proud of herself (or anyone else) for trying. Melva’s grades were only a little bit above average in school; she was more interested in pranks, which she was happy to use on those who criticized her back home. Without pranks and games, Melva’s life would not be complete. She loves to have fun with friends.
Likes: pranks, laughing, fun, friends, transfiguration, and games. Dislikes: ridicule, cowards, mean people, to cry
History: Melva was raised by a single, muggle mother in Southern Italy. Her father, Christopher, was an English wizard, with a very bad reputation for womanizing. Christopher seduced her mother, Rosalind, when he traveled through Italy, and he would have left her flat had it not been for Rosalind’s father forcing a wedding when Rosalind told him about her pregnancy. Christopher submitted to the wedding under the threat of legal action, but upon finally being told that Rosalind was pregnant a couple months later, he left without warning one day and never returned. Rosalind was only three months pregnant and Melva was born without ever knowing Christopher. Melva grew up seeing her grandfather as her father, and he has helped Rosalind to raise her daughter into a brave and strong woman.
The moment the townspeople found out that Rosalind had become pregnant before her marriage, she was shunned and ridiculed, as well as her daughter. Melva has never had friends in the town because of that, so her family is very dear to her, as they were her only friends until the age of eleven.
But let’s look before that, when Melva was six. Christopher never told Rosalind that he was a wizard, so the first signs of magic that Rosalind noticed Melva exhibit were brushed off as “fancies of the imagination”. But when Melva’s grandfather saw her exhibiting her powers a year later, he knew she was a witch. Unknown to Rosalind up to that point, was that her mother had been a witch, as well. Her father was a squib, and he pointed out that Rosalind was one as well. Although shocked, Rosalind took it in stride and found out everything she could about the magical world from her father.
It was much better that Melva grew up understanding that she was a witch, but at the same time it made it that much harder to live in the small town which they did. Every moment that Melva spent outside was spent being ridiculed and criticzed by the other children in the town or being snubbed by the adults. Rosalind felt for her daughter, but knew that Melva would have to be tough about it or she would never make it in the world. So, Rosalind always taught Melva to have a stiff upper lip and to this day, that is what she had done.
It was at eleven that Melva received a letter to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Her family was very pleased to know that she could be trained to use her powers now. Melva made many friends at Hogwarts. All races, bloodlines and ages made up her circle of friends, for she had learned early on not to judge others until she knew them. One of her best friends, however, was Alva Noreen Milica. The two just clicked from day one, and to their surprise and understanding the two had very similar pasts. Where Melva’s father had seduced and then left her mother, Alva’s father had been seduced by her mother and then was killed in an accident before Alva’s birth. Add to that the similar endings to their names, and you have a very beautiful friendship.
Of course, after that the similarities are fairly short. Other than both being Gryffindors and pranksters, the two girls really had nothing else in common. Alva practiced divination and Melva practiced transfiguration. Alva was blonde, while Melva was brunette. Alva was short and Melva was tall. And on and on…
After leaving Hogwarts, Melva was lucky enough to remain in touch with her old friends from school. A lot of her life for the next two years was spent constantly traveling to see and visit those old friends, but there was never a day when Melva neglected to either write or firecall her mother and grandfather. It was fourteen years ago that Melva truly thought of a career.
Upon visiting Alva, Melva found that her friend had since become an auror. The job appealed to Melva immensely, and she began training immediately. Melva became an Auror two years later, but after twelve years of working as an auror Melva received a hard blow. Melva’s friend Alva, who had originally helped her to get the job, was permanently crippled in a mission they went on together. The loss made Melva lose all interest in her job, and she left the service of the aurors that year.
For the past year Melva has been searching for a job from her friend’s home in Britain, but none truly appealed to her, until she heard of the job openings at Haunting Academy. Realizing that the school had no transfiguration or divination professors was a godsend for Melva. There are not many closer bonds than the one between Melva and Alva, and in order to help Alva with her disability Melva has prepared to move Alva into her home with her if she gets the professorship at Haunting. Alva was unsure (what with her disability) and chose not to apply for the divination position yet, but happily readied herself to move with her friend.
