The Rules of Haunting Academy

IMPORTANT NOTE: By joining this forum, you agree to abide by all the rules – this includes the decisions and instructions of staff members. If for any reason you behave as though the rules don't apply to you, we as the Staff reserve the right to BAN you, no questions asked. However, if you respect the rules and the staff, there's a lot of fun to be had, and it's my hope that everyone can have fun together.

So here they are. The Rules:

1) Respect the rules. Decisions and instructions given by Staff members carry equal weight with the rules of the forum. Staff members will not tell you do do something that is against the rules. They didn't become Staff by breaking the rules, after all.

2) Respect the Staff. No whining, talking back, or otherwise disrespecting the Staff members will be tolerated.

3) Respect your fellow members. Just because they aren't staff doesn't mean we'll allow you to push them around. Friendly teasing is okay but INDICATE that it is friendly, and if requested to stop, do so. If there's a conflict or you think someone is acting disrespectfully towards you, don't retaliate by flaming that person or starting an argument! This will only get you in trouble as well. Instead, notify the staff and we will take care of it.

4) Absolutely NO godmodding. This is when a participant acts like a god; whether it be creating a character or a spell that is unreasonably strong, acting invincible and/or untouchable in battle, learning and performing spells far beyond a character's ability, playing someone else's character without permission, or anything similar. Our Staff members know how to spot godmodding and will put a stop to it.

5) Play fair. Your character won't always win every duel/quidditch match, be the first to be chosen for the difficult missions, have the best grades in the class, or otherwise receive special treatment. Such instances may be allowed as special cases when absolutely necessary for a story point, but this must be approved. Otherwise, give other characters a chance. No one likes to be the loser all the time.

6) Do NOT Hijack someone else's thread. Planning threads are to remain true to the original idea the thread was created for. Discussions about your jutsu, or other story ideas, belong in their OWN THREADS. Create a separate thread and don't take over someone else's.

The same goes for roleplay threads: while open threads exist, don't just swoop in and take over. Threads carrying the specific names of certain characters are intended for those characters and the creator of the thread only, and are closed to outside participants. On the same note, if a thread is labeled "closed" in the subject line, that means it's intended only for specific people, and you should ask permission before attempting to join.

If you have an idea for a thread, create one yourself; don't assume control over other people's threads. If you do "hijack" a thread, intentionally or otherwise, the offending post - and any that follow its misdirection - very well may be deleted by a staff member.
